About Tshivhangwaho Hendrick Nekhofhe

 

Mr Nekhofhe is an accomplished sculptor of figures and abstract works of art, usually working in wood.


Hendrik was born in 1955 in Venda. He lives in Shayandima, where he works from his home studio. His ideas are often captured in drawings before they are transformed into sculptures. He is a very disciplined artist and his studio and tools are immaculately kept and organised, and this can be seen in his sculptures too – they are polished and finished to perfection.


In 1983 Mr Nekhofhe became a member of the Venda Group and from 1984 he is a member of FUBA. He has since exhibited widely and exhibitions include the Everad Read Contemporary Gallery, the Grahams town National Arts Festival, Gallery 181 and many others.


During his schooling, Mr Nekhofhe began participating in group exhibitions which were presented in Venda andthroughout South Africa. In 1986 he participated in the Bozz Art Foundation Exhibition, touring South Africa and exhibiting in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban in the company of Phutuma Seoka, Nelson Mukhuba and Jackson Hlungwani.


In 2014  his works where on show at the Chirombo Moderneum of Ancestry's exhibition "Dreaming with open eyes" being shown at the Albany Science Museum in Sommerset street, Grahamstown, South Africa. Recent exhibitions also include The FNB Johannesburg Art Fair 2014 and Mapungubwe Art and Culture Festival
